The Boston Marathon winds through several MetroWest service communities each year. In these photo galleries, we celebrate the racers with disabilities – using wheelchairs and handcycles or with varied mobility issues. We check the results, and an amazing percentage complete the entire 26 mile course.
In 2013, two bombs detonated near the finish line, killing 3 people and injuring several hundred others, including 16 who lost limbs. Some of these injured people came back to the marathon in later years as racers with disabilities.
2018 was the worst weather in memory. Racers fought drenching and very cold rains, into a headwind, for most of the race.
